DESCRIPTION:TRA is pleased to announce a special event on April 26 with retired TRW vice president and TRA member David Vandervoet. \nProducing premier chocolate is more complex than producing premier wine. Most people have not tasted premier chocolate and the taste\, like wine\, varies depending on the region where it is grown. Come and experience a blind tasting of 6-8 premier chocolates produced from cacao pods grown around the world and decide which you like the best. \nThis event is being held Thursday\, April 26\, 2018\, from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club. The club is at 516 18th St\, Manhattan Beach\, CA 90266.  Light refreshments will be served before the presentation and chocolate tasting. \nThe cost is $18 per person and the event is limited to 30 people.  Sign-ups\, including payment through Paypal\, are available firstcome\, first-served\, on our website at www.tra-spacepark.org. No mail-in or phone sign-ups will be accepted. \nThanks very much to the MBBC board for allowing us to have our event at the club. This may be your last chance to tour the museum because it will relocate to Texas at the end of the year. As part of our event we will have access to the automobile and museum displays that record the history of Toyota (originally Toyoda) in the United States. The engineers and car buffs should have fun. There will be time to chat and catch up with friends. \nWe will have a catered lunch buffet from Snax Superburger Catering. It will include entrées of carved baron of beef\, BBQ ribs\, and chicken breast together with vegetable choices of green beans with bacon\, and glazed carrots. Lunch includes a mixed green salad\, fresh cut vegetable appetizer trays\, and dinner rolls with butter. SUMMARY:AIAA LA-LV Tech Panel-Viking 40 years on Mars
DESCRIPTION:  Forty years ago\, on June 19\, 1976\, Viking I entered orbit around Mars.  Viking was a collaborative effort between many NASA Centers and Contractors\, led by the Langley Viking Project Office with critical instrumentation designed and built by TRW (now Northrop Grumman Aerospace) in Redondo Beach. \nThis year will commemorate the Viking missions\, with local events by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics LA-LV Section and national events by the Viking Mars Missions Education and Preservation Project (VMMEPP).  VMMEPP preserves the Viking mission history and artifacts and hosts annual events and outreach for the public\, and is hosting the 2016\, 40th Viking Team Member Reunion\, open to ALL Vikings from institutes across the globe in all roles – every role contributed to the mission success! \nA panel of 5 to 7 engineers & managers who developed the Viking Lander’s Biology and Meteorology Instruments will discuss the development\, fabrication\, and testing of these advanced scientific instruments. \nFor more information\, click here.

DESCRIPTION:Hey all you racehorse touts. Come join us at Del Mar\, “where surf meets the turf”\, on Thursday 21 July\, first post at 2 PM. Bring spouses\, friends and neighbors; they’re all welcome to join in the fun. Last year this event was a winner and we all had a great time. \nWe have prepaid for 20 Clubhouse 3rd floor top 2 row seats (BUT\, only 10 remain after the “hold the date” email). Ticket cost remains at $12. (Wagers\, parking\, food\, beverages and dinner are extra.)  Since we have a limited number of reservations\, your tickets will be sent to you in the order your check is received. \nThe first post is at 2:00p.m. We will meet at our TRW San Diego Retiree seats on the Clubhouse 3rd floor by about 1:30. Plan your arrival so you have time to visit the paddock\, place your bets and settle in before the 2:00 pm post. General parking (not included) at the track is $10\, preferred is $15 and valet parking is available for $25. \nDinner \nMost of us will be going to the Brigantine Del Mar for dinner after the 8th race. We will be able to order from their attractive and price competitive menu with a 20% tip added. Our reservations are at 6. They’ve agreed to provide a separate check for each 2 people. \nThe Brigantine is just down the street from the track at 3263 Camino Del Mar near the south corner of Via de Ville and the Camino Del Mar. You can check out the location and menu at www.brigantine.com. Street parking is very limited\, but valet parking is available for $5.00. Don’t wait sign up now!
